2 former England Netball Captains the MasterClass Team!
4th March 2010
SET MasterClass are very pleased to announce the appointment of
former England Captain and Loughborough Lightning coach Olivia
Murphy as head coach for our fantastic MasterClass Netball week
in Holland and former England Captain and Mavericks Defense
Coach Amanda Newton as coach of our Spanish MasterClass.
95‐times capped Olivia explains: “SET’s Netball MasterClass in Holland is a great opportunity for school
netballers of all ages to develop their skills and abilities as players, as well as working on their
performance as a team. With position‐based clinics and skills sessions during the week and a very
challenging level of competition at the end of week tournament, teachers can be reassured that even
the strongest players will be challenged by the tour while players newer to the sport will be
accommodated and developed at the right pace.”
Amanda, first capped by England in 1996 vs. Jamaica takes the role of head coach at MasterClass Spain:
“As head netball coach at the SET MasterClass in Spain I’m looking forward to working with the visiting
schools and ensuring the players and coaches get
the most they can out of their time on tour.
Masterclass tours & tournaments are a fantastic
way of taking time to focus on skills, while
improving squad cohesion with off‐court activities
and excursions. From a coach’s point of view, the
opportunity to hear other perspectives and see
different coaching techniques is always fantastic. I
look forward to seeing you all in sunny Spain.”

MasterClass May Inspection Visit- Report 11th May 2009
This years SET MasterClass group inspection visit took place in the wonderful southern Holland resort of Valkenburg. Ten members of staff from 5 UK schools all took up the opportunity for an all expenses paid weekend to familiarise themselves with the local area and check out all the sports venues and activities that their students could be using.
Gloria Jenkins from Elgar Technology College, Worcester commented,
“It’s the perfect location with entertainment for the kids and all the sports venues nearby”.
SET ‘s annual inspection visit is designed to give staff the chance to risk assess any areas required for their school and also take time to look around and get an idea of what their students can and will be getting up to.
“The inspection visit was very well organised and informative. I would have no hesitation in talking a group here as there are plenty of opportunities which would make it an enriching and worthwhile experience.” - Gina and Dawn Lunt from Shorefields High School, Liverpool
Flying out with Brussels airlines on Friday afternoon the group arrived to be met by an experience SET representative to look after them for the weekend. The group checked in to Hotel Walram, one which our groups will be staying in, late evening and sat down to light supper before relaxing in the bar and discussing the following days itinerary.
After a good nights rest and a buffet breakfast the group met resort manager, Sarah Noonan and headed out for a guided tour of the local town. The first stop was the much asked about toboggan and Lasertag activity centre, which was walking distance from the hotel.
“Tobogganing is a winner for kids and staff. It’s an exciting break from the sports itinerary during the week.” – Nick Cousins, Sandringham School, Herts

Chatting about the morning, whilst tucking into a traditional pancake lunch Caroline Pennifold from Cavendish School, Hemel Hampstead said;
“I like the cultural flavour the kids will experience in Valkenburg.”
After lunch the staff had some free time to wander around and explore before being picked up by our VIP executive coach to head off to the sports venues. Half an hour in one direction of Valkenburg is the large sports centre for netball and 15 minutes in the other direction was the local hockey training facility with 3 artificial pitches and the football venue 5 minutes from there with 2 x 3G artificial pitches and 3 well maintained grass pitches to cater for most weather conditions.
Richard Ambrose from Dr Challoners said afterwards:
“It was a really valuable experience and will make things much smoother when we get there next April.”
After a long Saturday night, and many card games later, Sunday was a free morning for the staff before the VIP coach came to transfer everyone back to Brussels airport for their flights home!
“Coming out here on an inspection visit is great as you get a visual plan. As a teacher you don’t want surprises and want to make sure the kids get good value for money.”
-Nick Cousins, Sandringham School, Herts.

A Masterful October! 6th November 2008
The last month has been huge for the MasterClass team and we'd like to say a big thankyou to the hundreds of teachers and students who joined us on tour in Malta, Cyprus, Noordwijk, Valkenburg and Salou.
One of our successful Holland tour groups was Pennthorpe School from West Sussex.
Pennthorpe enjoyed football and netball coaching from our expert MasterClass Noordwijk resort team as well as a programme of local fixtures, including a nail-biting encounter with BSM Football, Bennebroek.
Simon Musselwhite, group leader, (pictured below giving his half time talk) told us:
"Everything was organised superbly. SET do all the hard work, making it a very easy tour to organise."

Further afield, a bumper Malta MasterClass played host to some fantastic netball and football. 150 students from five schools took on teams from five Maltese Netball clubs and Four Maltese football clubs.
Pictured below are the girls from Weald of Kent Grammar school who took the honours in both the U16's and U18's UK Tournaments. The International Netball Tournament was won by local side Banjos (U16's) while the U18's International section was won by Truro High School.
Lord Grey School, who triumphed in the MasterClass seven-a-side football event told us:
"SET are a well organised sports specialist who are establishing a fine reputation for themselves. They are efficient and meet all your needs and requests. Highly recommended to any school."
